PANIPAT, Dec 9: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ of LIC, under which 2 lakh female insurance agents will be appointed over the next three years.
The ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ is an initiative by the state-owned LIC aimed at empowering women aged 18 to 70 years who have completed Class X.
Participants will receive specialized training along with a stipend for the initial three years to enhance financial literacy and promote insurance awareness.
Under this program, the female agents will earn a stipend of Rs 7,000 per month in the first year, Rs 6,000 per month in the second year, and Rs 5,000 per month in the final year. Additionally, Bima Sakhis will receive commission benefits.
The goal is to recruit 2 lakh Bima Sakhis within three years.
Upon completion of their training, these women can work as LIC agents, with the opportunity for graduate Bima Sakhis to be considered for Development Officer positions in LIC. The Prime Minister will also distribute appointment certificates to the future Bima Sakhis.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal.
This main campus, along with six regional research stations, will be developed over 495 acres at a cost exceeding Rs 700 crore.
The University is set to feature a college of horticulture for both graduate and post-graduate studies, complemented by five schools covering ten horticulture disciplines. Its focus will be on crop diversification and conducting world-class research to advance horticultural technologies. (PTI)
