NEW DELHI, Jan 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the ongoing discussion surrounding the “One Nation, One Election” initiative, stating that it plays a crucial role in India’s democratic framework and encouraged young people to take an active part in and foster these discussions.
Speaking at a National Cadet Corps (NCC) rally in New Delhi, Modi urged youth, including NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, to become actively involved in promoting the discourse, which he described as being profoundly connected to their future.
He noted that the frequent electoral cycles in India often lead to a continuous campaign atmosphere.
“After independence, synchronized elections at both national and state levels were the norm for many years. However, this model eventually fractured, presenting the nation with numerous challenges,” he stated.
While addressing the NCC rally in Delhi, he highlighted this forum as a significant means for empowering youth to unlock their potential for the benefit of national progress. https://t.co/axOljrwXRP

Mr. Modi remarked that the current state, characterized by frequent elections, hinders effective governance and progressive development.
“At present, there exists a significant discussion regarding ‘One Nation, One Election’. Conducting Lok Sabha and state elections at the same time could ease disruptions and facilitate a more concentrated approach to governance,” he elaborated.
The Prime Minister called on the youth to engage in this dialogue, underscoring its significance for the nation’s future.
“I urge NCC cadets, volunteers, and all young people across the nation — wherever you may be, carry this discussion forward. It is directly tied to your future,” he stated, while reinforcing the notion that participating in the debate is crucial for influencing India’s political future.
Comparing India’s election frequency to that of other nations, Mr. Modi pointed out that even in the United States, the electoral cycle is designed to provide a clear division of governance intervals.
“In countries like the US, elections occur every four years, and the timelines for forming a new government are predetermined,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister encouraged a greater number of youth to engage in politics with fresh ideas.
“I previously stated from the Red Fort that a hundred thousand youngsters should enter politics,” he mentioned.
Mr. Modi also emphasized that the global future cannot be envisioned without the involvement of India’s youth.
“This is why I regard you as a force for good on a global scale,” he added.
He noted that in 2014, the count of NCC cadets in India was approximately 14 lakh, while today it stands at around 20 lakh, with over eight lakh of them being girl cadets.
