SRINAGAR, Jan 10: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, police have apprehended five drug dealers in the Anantnag district of Jammu Kashmir and seized illicit substances from them.
On Friday, authorities conducted a routine check at Halmulla Sangam, where they intercepted a vehicle and discovered 21 bottles of codeine phosphate in the possession of three individuals.
The individuals have been identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh from Kuchmulla Tral, Mohd Altaf Sheikh from Kanihama Nowgam, Srinagar, and Mohd Haroon Parry from Charsoo, Awantipora.
All three suspects were taken into custody at the scene, and the illicit substances, along with the vehicle, were confiscated.
In a separate operation, a truck belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company, Srinagar, was stopped for inspection on the Jablipora National Highway near the Fruit Mandi. This inspection resulted in the discovery of 10 bottles of codeine phosphate.
The truck driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, both residents of Bahoo, Awantipora, were arrested. The truck has been seized, and a case has been filed.
