POONCH, Dec 2: In a landmark initiative, Poonch hosted its first-ever National-Level Cricket Triangular Series for Differently-abled athletes, marking an important advancement in promoting inclusivity in sports within this border district.
This event took place on National Disability Day and was organized by the District Administration of Poonch in partnership with the JK Divyang Welfare Association and the Divyang Cricket Control Board of India. It saw enthusiastic participation from teams hailing from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
The tournament was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, who described the effort as a crucial move towards empowering differently-abled individuals and showcasing their exceptional cricketing talent. He highlighted the significance of events like these in nurturing inclusivity and sportsmanship.
The triangular series united players from various parts of the country, exemplifying their resolve and determination to excel despite the obstacles they face. Shah Aziz, the Captain of the J&K Divyang Cricket Team, noted that this collaboration positions Poonch as a potential center for inclusive sports, offering differently-abled athletes a platform to shine on the national stage.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that this is the first national-level event hosted in Poonch, coinciding with National Disability Day.
The opening ceremony was graced by DDC Member Riaz Bashir Naz, Chairman Pir Panchal Mohammad Fareed Malik, along with other prominent figures from the sports community.
