NEW DELHI, Feb 23: The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) announced a call for a countrywide strike on June 26 in opposition to the privatization efforts within the power sector.
The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers has resolved to engage in a nationwide strike on June 26 to express their dissent against the privatization of electrical utilities and departments, according to an AIPEF statement released on Sunday.
The statement indicated that the NCCOEEE plans to organize major conferences across all provinces in the country during April and May to ensure the success of the nationwide strike.
Additionally, the NCCOEEE intends to conduct four significant rallies aimed at protesting the ongoing privatization in Uttar Pradesh.
In a resolution, the NCCOEEE General Assembly condemned the privatization of the profit-generating power department in Chandigarh, labeling it as “highly objectionable”.
The resolution highlights concerns over the extensive privatization of the transmission sector, which is being executed under the guise of tariff-based competitive bidding and asset monetization.
The detrimental effects of privatization in the generation sector are being felt by ordinary consumers, who are facing exorbitant electricity costs, the statement added. (PTI)
