NEW DELHI, Jan 13: President Droupadi Murmu described India’s accomplishments in the dairy sector as “extraordinary,” highlighting the vital role that livestock plays in the rural economy of the nation.
She made these comments during a virtual event where she inaugurated initiatives such as cow induction, Giftmilk, and market support for the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) through the National Dairy Development Board from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Murmu emphasized India’s diverse livestock breeds, which contribute significantly to the country’s agricultural legacy.
She noted that livestock is essential for rural households and the overall rural economy, stating, “To support and promote our livestock, the government has implemented various measures and policy initiatives aimed at breed development and genetic improvement.”
She further reiterated that India’s accomplishments in dairy are remarkable, adding, “The productivity of our milch cattle has dramatically increased over the past decade,” as per an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“These achievements demonstrate our dedication to high standards in animal husbandry. However, there is still much to be done concerning animal health,” she remarked.
Murmu stressed that enhancing both the quantity and health of livestock will lead to improved quality of food products, including milk.
“By making progress in all regions of the country, we can significantly contribute to creating a healthier India,” she concluded. (PTI)
