New Delhi, Dec 12: On Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu awarded the honorary title of ‘General of the Indian Army’ to Nepal’s Army Chief, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, during a ceremony held in the capital.
Since 1950, it has been a long-standing tradition to bestow the title of Honorary General upon the Chiefs of the Armies of Nepal and India.
The President stated, “The Honorary Rank of General of the Indian Army was conferred upon Suprabal Janasewashree General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff of the Nepali Army, during a special investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in recognition of his exceptional military skills and significant contributions to enhancing Nepal’s enduring friendship with India,” as per a release from her office.
General Sigdel is on a pivotal visit to India since Tuesday, which is crucial for strengthening defense relations between the two nations.
His visit, taking place from December 11-14, emphasizes the continued collaboration to bolster defense cooperation between Nepal and India.
