JAMMU, Dec 17: The Press Club of Jammu (PCJ) has expressed complete support for the appeals made by editors of prominent newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the implementation of DAVP rates for government advertisements across all categories of newspapers.
In a statement released today, PCJ president Sanjeev Pargal noted that the newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir have persistently called for the application of DAVP rates through various channels and have recently reached out to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to press their case.
“While DAVP rates are applicable to regional newspapers in other Union Territories, media outlets in Jammu and Kashmir have been denied similar benefits,” Pargal stated, expressing hope that the Lieutenant Governor will respond positively to their request soon.
Highlighting the justification behind the demand articulated by various newspaper editors and supported by diverse media organizations, including JK Press Corps, the PCJ leader pointed out that the local newspapers have faced numerous challenges and it is crucial for the government to offer assistance at this critical juncture.
Pargal emphasized that newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir operate under exceptionally difficult conditions and that it is the responsibility of the Union Territory government to provide necessary support. He further advocated for the equal treatment of Jammu and Kashmir newspapers in line with other Union Territories that have already implemented DAVP rates for their local publications.
He asserted that the establishment of DAVP rates is essential for the growth of the media sector in Jammu and Kashmir, expressing confidence that the government will soon announce the adoption of these new rates for advertisements directed towards newspapers.
