KYIV, Jan 15: In a significant escalation, Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine on Wednesday, prompting the Ukrainian government to initiate preventative power outages, as confirmed by the country’s energy minister.
“The enemy continues to unleash terror on Ukrainians,” Herman Halushchenko stated in a Facebook post, calling on residents to seek refuge in shelters amid the ongoing danger and to stay updated through official channels.
The state energy company, Ukrenergo, announced emergency outages implemented in the regions of Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad.
According to Andrii Sadovyi, the mayor of Lviv, Russian forces targeted energy infrastructure in the western region with missile strikes early on Wednesday.
“This morning, there were reported sightings of enemy cruise missiles in the area,” he noted.
Fortunately, no injuries or damages have been reported thus far.
Ukraine’s air force monitored several missile launches by Russia during a nationwide air raid alert, although initial assessments indicated no harm was done. (AP)
