NEW DELHI, Dec 7: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that his administration has made a significant move to enhance the accessibility of school education by approving the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas.
He emphasized that this initiative will not only benefit a vast number of students but will also generate numerous job opportunities.
“Our government has made a pivotal decision to ensure that school education is more accessible than ever. We will be launching 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas nationwide. This initiative aims to benefit many students while simultaneously creating new job prospects,” Modi stated in a Hindi post on X.
The Prime Minister asserted that the government is dedicated to providing school education to all segments of society, in line with the National Education Policy.
“Accordingly, our government has sanctioned 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas across the nation. This will significantly enhance residential and quality school education,” Modi elaborated in another Hindi post.
He also noted the government’s commitment to improving connectivity throughout the country.
“In this regard, approval has been given for the Rithala-Kundli corridor under the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro in the National Capital Region. This will facilitate easier commuting between Delhi and Haryana,” Modi added.
On Friday, the Union Cabinet greenlit the opening of 85 new KVs and 28 new NVs, along with the expansion of one existing KV.
These new KVs will offer an opportunity for over 82,000 students to access affordable and high-quality education nationwide.
The total proposed budget for establishing the 85 new KVs and expanding one existing KV is estimated at Rs 5,872.08 crore, scheduled over an eight-year span from 2025-26.
Currently, there are 1,256 operational Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three international locations in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, with approximately 13.56 lakh students enrolled, according to an official statement.
The Union Cabinet also approved the 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli corridor as part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project, further improving connectivity between the national capital and Haryana.
This entire corridor will feature 21 elevated stations.
These decisions were made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Modi. (Agencies)
