LOS ANGELES, Jan 9: Actor-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined the team of the Oscar-shortlisted film “Anuja” as an executive producer.
The short film, set in New Delhi and produced by two-time Academy Award winner Guneet Monga and Mindy Kaling, is among the 15 contenders in the Live Action Short category by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Directed by Adam J Graves and Suchitra Mattai, “Anuja” tells the story of a talented nine-year-old named Anuja, who faces the difficult decision between pursuing her education and taking on factory work alongside her sister, a choice that will significantly impact their futures. The film features performances by Sajda Pathan and Ananya Shanbhag.
Priyanka has described “Anuja” as a remarkable film that highlights an issue affecting millions of children globally.
“‘Anuja’ is a touching and thought-provoking work that encourages us to contemplate the weight of our choices and how they direct the path of our lives. I am incredibly proud to be part of such an outstanding and meaningful project,” the actor-producer stated.
Previously, she was an executive producer on the Oscar-nominated documentary “To Kill a Tiger” and also starred in “The White Tiger.”
“Anuja” was created in partnership with the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a nonprofit established by filmmaker Mira Nair’s family that supports street and working children, along with Shine Global and Krushan Naik Films. (PTI)
