New Delhi, Feb 6: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government on Thursday for the treatment of Indians who were illegally staying in the United States and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar respond to the matter.
On Wednesday, a US military aircraft brought back 104 Indian immigrants who were deported as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. The deportees reported that their hands and feet were shackled during the flight, only being freed upon arriving at Amritsar airport.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi remarked, “It was claimed that Modi ji and Trump ji have a good relationship. Why did Modi ji allow this to occur? Couldn’t we have sent our own aircraft to bring them back?” She further questioned, “Is this the way to treat people, sending them back in handcuffs and chains?”
When asked whether the External Affairs Minister should be held accountable, she responded, “He should respond; the Prime Minister must provide an explanation. Is this how we should treat our citizens?” (Agencies)
