Mumbai, Dec 21: The Allu Arjun-led film “Pushpa 2: The Rule” has made a mark as the most-viewed movie of 2024, attracting 10.8 lakh individual viewers, as per a year-end summary by BookMyShow.
As we approach the end of 2024, this entertainment platform has released a report named #BookMyShowThrowback, which outlines significant trends that have shaped cinematic experiences both in India and worldwide, alongside a remarkable surge in live entertainment.
“Pushpa 2: The Rule”, the sequel to the hit 2021 Telugu film “Pushpa: The Rise”, has achieved phenomenal success at the box office, breaking numerous records and grossing Rs 1,500 crore globally.
Released in various languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam on December 5, this follow-up has captured audience attention.
The report, analyzing data from January 1 to December 5, reveals that November 1 was an outstanding day for BookMyShow, with a staggering 2.3 million tickets sold in just 24 hours.
Other top-viewed films of 2024 featured Hindi titles such as “Stree 2”, “Singham Again”, and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3”, as well as blockbusters like “Kalki 2898 AD” (Telugu), “HanuMan” (Telugu), “Amaran” (Tamil), “The Greatest of All Time” (Tamil), “Devara” (Telugu), and “Manjummel Boys” (Malayalam).
The company also noted that one avid moviegoer viewed 221 films throughout the year.
Highlighting the trend of classic films making a comeback in theaters, the report mentions that films such as “Kal Ho Na Ho”, “Timbbad”, “Rockstar”, and “Laila Majnu” transformed “theatres into time machines for fans revisiting beloved classics”.
In the realm of Hollywood, franchises like “Deadpool & Wolverine”, “Dune: Part Two”, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” created a thrilling atmosphere, according to the report.
Moreover, low-budget films such as “Aavesham”, “Laapaata Ladies”, and “Merry Christmas” demonstrated that genuine narratives can deeply resonate with audiences, regardless of budget constraints.
On the live events scene, 2024 was a remarkable year filled with unique experiences.
BookMyShow facilitated an impressive 30,687 live events across 319 cities, denoting an 18% increase in live entertainment consumption in India.
The year commenced with the Jonas Brothers captivating the audience at Lollapalooza 2024, followed by Ed Sheeran’s concert in March, where he was joined by Diljit Dosanjh on stage.
Maroon 5 performed in the country on December 3, making waves by filling arenas on a Tuesday night, proving that concerts on weekdays can be just as electrifying.
“Music tourism flourished, emerging as a defining trend of the year. Over 477,393 fans traveled from their cities to attend live music events… Tier 2 cities saw a remarkable 682% rise in live events, including markets such as Kanpur, Shillong, and Gandhinagar, indicating a broader access to entertainment across the country,” the report noted.
For Coldplay’s anticipated concert in Ahmedabad, ticket bookings have poured in from over 500 cities and 28 states.
Scheduled for January 25, 2025, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the concert is part of Chris Martin-led band’s ‘Music Of The Spheres World Tour’.
Additionally, the group will host three shows at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21.
In 2025, Ed Sheeran is also set to return to India with his Mathematics Tour, performing in six cities: Pune on January 30, Hyderabad on February 2, Chennai on February 5, Bengaluru on February 8, Shillong on February 12, and finally Delhi NCR on February 15.
Furthermore, comedy, art, and immersive experiences have garnered steady audiences, featuring events like Nykaaland 2024, Van Gogh 360, and Peppa Pig’s adventure. (Agencies)
