NEW DELHI, Dec 23: The forthcoming Republic Day Parade will feature tableaux under the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’. The defence ministry announced that 15 states and union territories have been chosen to present their tableaux along Kartavya Path on January 26.
The selected states and UTs are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadra Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Additionally, 11 ministries and departments of the central government will participate in the 2025 Republic Day celebrations, according to a statement from the ministry.
“Every year, states/UTs and Union government ministries/departments exhibit their tableaux on Kartavya Path as part of the Republic Day Celebration (RDC). For RDC-2025, the theme for the tableaux has been set as ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’,” the statement elaborated.
“Regardless of their selection for Kartavya Path, all states and UTs are welcome to present their tableaux during Bharat Parv at Red Fort from January 26-31,” it added.
Tableaux are a significant part of the Republic Day parade. Given the limited time allocated for them, an “Expert Committee” is responsible for shortlisting the tableaux, as stated by the ministry.
“When assessing the tableaux, the committee considers various factors such as conceptual uniqueness and creativity, clear communicable messages, a balance between ‘Virasat’ and ‘Vikas’ in each tableau, avoidance of repetitive themes, and attention to details like color, form, texture, rhythm, proportion, and overall aesthetic experience,” the ministry explained.
Since the start of this year, the Ministry of Defence has employed a “consultative process” to decide on various aspects of the tableaux, as noted in the statement.
“In April 2024, a senior-level meeting was convened to discuss improvements in the quality of tableaux. Suggestions received during the meeting have been incorporated into the decision-making process, including the theme that was determined based on input from states and UTs,” it continued.
There exists a “well-established system” for selecting tableaux for the Republic Day parade, where the Ministry of Defence invites proposals from all states, UTs, and central ministries and departments.
“Proposals received from various states/UTs and central ministries/departments are evaluated during several meetings of the Expert Committee, which consists of distinguished individuals in the fields of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography,” the ministry stated.
“The entire selection process is described as ‘robust, fair, transparent, based on merit, and free from bias’,” the statement added.
“The selected tableaux are set to highlight India’s diverse strengths and its ongoing cultural inclusiveness as it moves towards a glorious future, reflecting ‘Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas’ to audiences worldwide,” concluded the ministry. (PTI)
