Bengaluru, Jan 21: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to miss the Gandhi Bharat event scheduled for Tuesday in Belagavi due to health issues, according to sources from the ruling party.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara informed PTI Videos in Belagavi that the entire Congress leadership would be present at the event, which is set to begin shortly. However, sources indicated that due to his illness, Rahul Gandhi is likely to be absent.
Key Congress figures, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Wayanad, along with other senior officials, are anticipated to attend the gathering in Belagavi, located near the Maharashtra border. Reports suggest that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, followed by a public meeting at the CPED grounds.
The Gandhi Bharat event commemorates the centenary of the sole Congress session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi in 1924. Initially set for December 27 of the previous year, it was postponed due to the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Themed ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan,’ the gathering will reinforce the Congress party’s dedication to Gandhian principles and the Constitution.
Comprehensive security measures have been implemented in anticipation of the VVIP arrivals in the city. (Agencies)
