New Delhi, January 2: The Railway Ministry is establishing a new division headquartered in Jammu by reorganizing the existing Firozpur division within the Northern Railway Zone. An official notification sent to the Northern Railway on January 1, 2025, outlines that the new Jammu division will consist of five sections: Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur (now named after martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan), Srinagar-Baramula, Bhogpur Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala (excluding)-Pathankot, and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar. The total length of these sections will be 742.1 kilometers.
The ministry stated, “Final jurisdiction will be determined based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).” Additionally, it noted that the divisional headquarters in Jammu should be designed with modern infrastructure, leveraging the full potential of information technology.
The goal is to create an efficient organization for the Jammu Division, with all necessary positions filled from the existing posts in the Northern Railway, according to the circular. The ministry has requested a Detailed Project Report to quickly evaluate the infrastructure needs and organizational structure required for the division’s establishment, along with the processes for transferring staff to the new division.
Currently, there are 68 railway divisions across 17 railway zones, and with this restructuring, Jammu will become the 69th division. (Agencies)
