NEW DELHI, Dec 4: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that the Indian Railways provides a total subsidy of Rs 56,993 crore annually for all passenger categories, translating to a 46% discount on every ticket.
In response to various inquiries in the Lok Sabha regarding the reinstatement of discounts for specific train passengers, he explained that for a ticket priced at Rs 100, the actual charge is only Rs 54, reflecting a 46% reduction.
“Each year, the Indian Railways allocates Rs 56,993 crore as a subsidy to all classes of passengers,” Vaishnaw stated during the Question Hour.
Additionally, when asked about rapid train services, he noted that the railways has launched the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad, which has received exceptional feedback from passengers for its quality of service.
According to officials, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail enhances intercity connectivity by traveling the 359-kilometer route between Bhuj and Ahmedabad in just 5 hours and 45 minutes, with several stops along the way. (PTI)
