LA PAZ, Jan 24: A devastating rainy season that commenced in November has resulted in the deaths of eighteen individuals and has impacted over 50,000 families across eight of Bolivia’s nine departments, an official reported on Thursday.
Twelve municipalities have been classified as disaster zones and another 55 are currently grappling with severe challenges due to flooding and landslides, stated Deputy Civil Defense Minister Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
He also warned that heavy rainfall is anticipated to persist in the upcoming weeks, which could lead to additional flooding.
To address the adverse effects of this extreme weather, an urgent intervention plan is being coordinated with local mayors to assist the communities most affected, he added. (UNI)
