New Delhi, January 1: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has officially designated 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms.’ This initiative is aimed at evolving the Armed Forces into a technologically proficient and combat-ready entity, prepared for integrated multi-domain operations.
“Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led a meeting with the Ministry’s Secretaries just before the New Year to assess the progress of various schemes, projects, and reforms, and to strategize for the future. It was collectively agreed that 2025 would be termed the ‘Year of Reforms’ within the MoD, with the goal of transforming the Armed Forces into a modernized, combat-ready force capable of multi-domain integrated operations,” according to a release from the Ministry of Defence.
The meeting underscored the importance of focusing on reforms that enhance Jointness & Integration initiatives and facilitate the establishment of Integrated Theatre Commands. Additionally, it highlighted the necessity to address new domains like Cyber and Space, along with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Hypersonics, and Robotics. Essential Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for winning future conflicts must also be formulated.
Further, the meeting resolved that the MoD would concentrate on cultivating a cohesive understanding of operational needs and joint operational capabilities through inter-service collaboration and training. It was acknowledged that procedures should be simplified and expedited to enable faster and more effective capability development.
The MoD also intends to strengthen collaboration among various stakeholders within the defence ecosystem, eliminating silos. Efficient civil-military coordination aims to address inefficiencies and optimize resources. The goal is to position India as a credible exporter of defence products, nurturing R&D while fostering partnerships between Indian industries and international Original Equipment Manufacturers for knowledge sharing and resource integration, as stated in the release.
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh expressed optimism that the ‘Year of Reforms’ would mark a significant milestone in the Armed Forces’ modernization journey. He remarked, “This will establish the groundwork for unprecedented advancements in our nation’s defence readiness, ensuring security and sovereignty amid the challenges of the 21st century.” (Agencies)
