MHOW (MP), Dec 29: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Sunday that India is a “not very lucky” nation regarding its security situation, urging soldiers to remain vigilant against both internal and external threats that are perpetually active.
He spoke to Army personnel at the historic Mhow cantonment, which has served for over two centuries, located in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh.
“Given the current security challenges, Bharat is not particularly fortunate, as we constantly confront issues along our northern and western borders,” Singh mentioned during his two-day visit to the state.
Mhow cantonment, situated 25 km from Indore, hosts three premier training institutions: the Army War College, the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, and the Infantry School, in addition to the Infantry Museum and the Army Marksmanship Unit.
“We also contend with internal challenges. In this context, we cannot afford to be passive or indifferent. Our adversaries, whether they are internal or external, are always active. Therefore, we need to closely monitor their activities and take timely and effective action against them,” he advised the soldiers.
According to the defence minister, the Army’s role is pivotal in achieving the goal of making Bharat a developed and self-reliant nation by 2017.
“As the nation’s defence minister, I would like to remind you to remain vigilant at all times. This period, often labeled as peacetime, has genuinely impressed me, especially seeing the discipline and commitment with which you are undergoing training. Your regimen is comparable to that of wartime,” he conveyed to the audience.
“Maintaining such discipline, dedication, and steadfast conviction is essential,” he added.
Singh expressed admiration for the cleanliness observed in Army establishments and cantonments nationwide.
“Your commitment to your duties serves as an inspiration to me. The most remarkable aspect is your dedication to your work and your sense of responsibility, which inspires all of us,” Singh stated.
Earlier, Singh, alongside Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, paid homage with floral tributes at Dr. B R Ambedkar’s memorial in Mhow.
The memorial, dedicated to the chief architect of India’s Constitution, has been constructed at his birthplace in the Kali Paltan area of Mhow cantonment. (PTI)
