MHOW (MP), Dec 29: On Sunday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh referred to India as a “not very lucky” nation in terms of security and urged soldiers to remain vigilant against both internal and external threats which are constantly present.
Singh addressed Army personnel at the historic Mhow cantonment, situated in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, established over two hundred years ago.
“Considering the security landscape, Bharat is not particularly fortunate as our northern and western borders are perpetually confronted with challenges,” he stated during his two-day visit to the state.
Located 25 km from Indore, Mhow cantonment hosts three prestigious training institutions: the Army War College, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, and Infantry School, in addition to the Infantry Museum and Army Marksmanship Unit.
“Moreover, we encounter difficulties on the internal front. Given this context, we cannot afford to be complacent. Our adversaries, whether internal or external, are constantly on the move. Therefore, it is imperative that we monitor their actions closely and respond effectively and promptly,” he informed the soldiers.
The defence minister emphasized that the Army plays a vital role in achieving Bharat’s goal of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation by 2017.
“As the country’s defence minister, I wish to remind you to stay ever-alert. This phase often described as peacetime has left a significant impression upon me, particularly upon witnessing the discipline and commitment with which you are training. Your training regimen is akin to that of a wartime effort,” he conveyed to the attendees.
“Sustaining such levels of discipline, dedication, and resolute conviction is essential,” he added.
Singh expressed his admiration for the cleanliness maintained in Army establishments and cantonments nationwide.
“Your commitment to your work motivates me. I must say, the most impressive aspect is your devotion and sense of responsibility towards your duties. It serves as an inspiration for all of us,” Singh remarked.
Earlier, Singh, accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, paid respects at the memorial of Dr. B R Ambedkar in Mhow.
The memorial for Ambedkar, the principal architect of India’s Constitution, is located at his birthplace in the Kali Paltan area of Mhow cantonment. (Agencies)
