NEW DELHI, Dec 9: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has expressed his enthusiasm about portraying Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming two-part film “Ramayana”, describing it as “India’s greatest story” on the big screen. Scheduled for release during Diwali in 2026 and 2027, the film is produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios.
Reports have suggested that Ranbir and Sai Pallavi will take on the roles of Ram and Sita, respectively, while Yash from the “KGF” series is said to be cast as Ravan, although the official cast has yet to be confirmed by the filmmakers.
Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2024 in Saudi Arabia, Ranbir revealed he has completed shooting for the first part of “Ramayana” and will soon commence work on the second part.
“It’s a humbling experience to portray Ram’s character. This role has been a lifelong dream for me. The film encapsulates Indian culture, highlighting family values and the dynamics between husband and wife. I am genuinely excited,” the actor stated.
According to the production team, “Ramayana” promises to be a live-action adaptation of the revered Hindu epic. They announced in a recent press release, “This epic retelling brings to life one of India’s most beloved stories with unparalleled scale and imaginative storytelling.”
In an interview with Deadline, Ranbir elaborated on the diverse global talent involved in the film, emphasizing its dual-part structure. He remarked, “This is the tale of Lord Ram and Ravana, a definitive narrative of India, and I am thrilled to convey it to a contemporary audience utilizing modern technology.”
The 42-year-old actor also provided an update on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Animal”, titled “Animal Park”, stating that filming will commence in 2027 and discussions for a third installment are already underway.
“I will portray both the antagonist and protagonist in this incredibly exciting project with an original director,” he shared.
Moreover, Ranbir mentioned that “Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev”, the sequel to 2022’s “Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva”, is currently in the writing phase.
He is set to appear next in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love & War”, alongside his wife and “Brahmastra” co-star Alia Bhatt, along with fellow actor Vicky Kaushal, with whom he previously collaborated in “Sanju”. (PTI)
