MOSCOW, Feb 6: According to CNN, at least 40,000 U.S. government employees have opted to resign in exchange for an eight-month severance package, as reported by a government official familiar with the situation.
Late in January, NBC News disclosed that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump was offering the severance deal to those willing to resign voluntarily. It was anticipated that about 10% of federal officials might accept the offer, potentially saving the government billions.
The report indicated that around 2 million civil servants in the U.S. have been presented with this opportunity.
The interest in resigning appears to be increasing, though the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) plans to withhold any information on deferred resignations until after the deadline, according to a Trump administration official.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that more than 20,000 civil servants had taken up the offer. (UNI)
