New Delhi, January 12: Prabowo Subianto, the newly elected President of Indonesia, will be the Chief Guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations, according to sources. This visit is particularly meaningful as India and Indonesia are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Subianto held their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of last year’s G20 Summit in Rio, where they pledged to strengthen their bilateral relationship through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The leaders emphasized the importance of commemorating this milestone appropriately, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs.
“Indonesia and India share a long-established and positive relationship. We are committed to further enhancing this partnership across various sectors,” stated the Indonesian President, as per the Cabinet Secretariat.
In October of last year, Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia’s former defense minister, was sworn in as the eighth President, with Gibran Rakabuming, the son of former President Joko Widodo, assuming the role of Vice President. India was represented at the swearing-in ceremony by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. (Agencies)
