Leh, Jan 26: The Republic Day celebrations here on Sunday were led by Ladakh Lt Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra, who called upon the citizens—particularly the youth—to commit to transforming the region into the most developed Union Territory in India.
At Polo Ground Leh, the location of the main event, the Lt Governor raised the national flag and extended his warm wishes to the Ladakhi populace.
Starting his speech, he conveyed his profound joy at the posthumous accolade received by Late Lama Lobzang, who was awarded the esteemed Padma Shri for his remarkable contributions.
“This recognition underscores the steadfast commitment of Ladakh’s people to social progress and development,” Mishra remarked.
He elaborated on the notable advancements achieved in various developmental sectors within the region, articulating a vision for a thriving and sustainable Ladakh.
The LG extensively discussed the establishment of five new districts in Ladakh, the initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality, and the ongoing advancements in education, health, tourism, and infrastructure.
He also highlighted significant projects, such as the removal of diesel generators from many parts of Ladakh, the ongoing development of the 220 KV transmission systems, and the creation of a green corridor project.
Furthermore, he commended the efforts being made to improve educational facilities, skill development initiatives, and the encouragement of winter sports.
The Lt Governor acknowledged progress in employment, health management, and rural infrastructure, emphasizing the considerable effects of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the creation of a medical college, and promoting Ladakh as a major destination for tourism and sports through initiatives like the Khelo India Winter Games.
He congratulated the recipients of the newly established UT Awards, recognizing five awardees each from the Leh and Kargil districts for their outstanding contributions to the region’s development. These awards aim to honor and motivate those who have made significant impacts in their communities.
Stressing the importance of unity and collaboration, Mishra urged the people of Ladakh to persist in their efforts toward a “corruption-free and delay-free” administration.
He also invited all citizens, especially the youth, to take a pledge to elevate Ladakh to the status of the most developed Union Territory in the nation.
In conclusion, the Lt Governor reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare of Ladakh’s inhabitants, promising to work assiduously for the region’s progress alongside both the Leh and Kargil districts.
