Srinagar, Jan 31: Authorities were prompted to take action today after rodents were discovered in oil meant for street food preparation at Dargah Hazratbal. A video circulating on social media highlighted the alarming presence of rodents in the oil used for a popular street food item commonly referred to as ‘Monji Goel,’ raising significant public health concerns.
In response to the viral footage, officials from relevant departments arrived at the location and imposed fines on the offending vendor. They confirmed that an inspection had been conducted and emphasized the necessity for all vendors to uphold hygiene standards. “Upon learning of the video, we promptly arrived and fined the vendor; a warning has also been issued,” an official stated.
Additionally, the police have initiated a case against the vendor for “an unlawful and negligent act.” They confirmed, “An FIR No 10/2025 has been filed at Police Station Nigeen under section 271 BNS for the vendor’s unlawful and negligent actions that could lead to the spread of infection in the Hazratbal area.”
