New Delhi, Dec 17: Rohan Jaitley has been re-elected as the President of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) for his third consecutive term, decisively defeating former Indian cricket star and Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad.
The 35-year-old Jaitley, son of the late Arun Jaitley, a former Union Minister, garnered 1,577 votes, while Azad received 777 votes in this election, which spans a three-year term. Arun Jaitley previously held the presidency for 14 years.
Out of a total of 2,413 votes cast from 3,748 members, Jaitley needed 1,207 votes to secure his position. In 2020, he was elected unopposed following Rajat Sharma’s mid-term resignation and later won a full term against advocate Vikas Singh the following year.
He received support from CK Khanna, the former acting president of the BCCI, who wields significant influence in Delhi cricket, accounting for over 1,000 votes.
Khanna’s daughter, Shikha Kumar, also triumphed in the vice-president election, obtaining 1,246 votes against Rakesh Kumar Bansal (536) and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal (498).
Other office-bearers elected for three-year terms include Ashok Sharma (Secretary, 893 votes), Harish Singla (Treasurer, 1,328 votes), and Amit Grover (Joint Secretary, 1,189 votes).
The directors, who are elected annually, include Anand Verma (985), Manjit Singh (1,050), Navdeep M (1,034), Shyam Sharma (1,165), Tushar Saigal (926), Vikas Katyal (1,054), and Vikram Kohli (939).
Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and current MP for Bardhaman-Durgapur with the Trinamool Congress, had previously raised allegations of corruption within the DDCA, claiming that the association spent Rs 17.5 crore on floodlights—significantly more than the Rs 7.5 crore spent by the much larger Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Additionally, he accused the DDCA administration of utilizing only a small portion of the approximately Rs 140 crore received from the BCCI in the last fiscal year. (PTI)
