Mumbai, Jan 22: Team India captain Rohit Sharma commenced training with his domestic team, Mumbai, on Wednesday in preparation for their second-round Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) shared an image of Rohit Sharma on their official X account, captioned: “The Hitman show”.
Rohit Sharma is set to participate in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, with the match against Jammu and Kashmir scheduled from January 23 to 26 at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai.
His last Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai was in November 2015, where he scored a phenomenal 113 off 140 balls in a game that concluded in a draw against Uttar Pradesh.
Lately, Rohit’s performance in Test cricket has raised questions about his form. During India’s Australia tour, he managed a mere 31 runs in five innings across three Tests.
The 2024-25 Test season has been particularly tough for Rohit, with just 164 runs in eight matches and 15 innings, averaging 10.93, with his best score being 52—a lone half-century against Bangladesh.
As captain, Rohit faced challenges, notably witnessing India’s first home Test series loss in 12 years, being whitewashed 0-3 by New Zealand. This marked India’s first-ever home Test whitewash since 2000.
Following India’s 295-run win in the first Test against Australia at Perth under Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy, Rohit returned to the squad after welcoming his second child.
The MCA confirmed Rohit’s inclusion in the team on January 20.
