Kathua/Jammu, Feb 24: Authorities detained an individual for questioning after discovering Rs 35 lakh in a private vehicle in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, according to police reports.
This marks the second significant cash confiscation from a car in the district bordering Punjab within a span of one week. On February 18, police apprehended two young men from Kashmir after uncovering Rs 3.36 crore hidden in a special compartment within their vehicle at Lakhanpur.
In the recent incident, a police team stopped a car with a Delhi license plate at Baghthali village along the Jammu-Pathankot highway and recovered a bag containing Rs 35,08,800, officials stated.
The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, while another passenger was taken into custody for further questioning, they added.
The income tax department has been notified, and an investigation is ongoing, officials mentioned.
