Indore, Jan 3: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) does not train its members to use the ‘lathi’ or stick for combative purposes or public demonstrations, but rather to cultivate bravery and perseverance, according to the organization’s leader, Mohan Bhagwat, who spoke on Friday.
“Those who handle the lathi cultivate ‘veer vritthi’ (a sense of courage) and fearlessness. Training with the lathi reinforces steadfastness during challenges and motivates individuals to pursue their paths with determination, patience, and unwavering strength,” Bhagwat emphasized.
He made these remarks at the ‘Swar Shatak Malwa’ event in Indore, where 870 RSS volunteers showcased their skills in a collective performance using traditional musical instruments.
Bhagwat noted that Indian and traditional music promote harmony, goodwill, and discipline, freeing individuals from frivolous distractions and guiding them toward righteousness.
He contrasted this with music from other cultures, stating that while it may stimulate the mind and evoke joy, Indian music cultivates joy by soothing the soul, he remarked.
“Engaging with Indian music liberates people from material temptations and fosters a propensity for virtuous actions, resulting in abundant joy. Indian and traditional music impart lessons of harmony, discipline, and coexistence,” he continued.
The RSS leader highlighted that Sangh volunteers, driven by patriotism, have composed traditional melodies and martial tunes using diverse instruments, aiming to ensure India is not devoid of the artistic richness found globally.
“Our Bharat is neither backward nor impoverished. We can proudly take our place among the world’s nations and showcase our extensive artistic heritage,” he asserted.
Bhagwat also encouraged individuals to support RSS members in their mission to forge “a new nation.” The RSS is set to celebrate its centenary in 2025. (Agencies)
