Vadodara, Mar 6: Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable 64 runs were overshadowed as Australia defeated India convincingly by 95 runs in their International Masters League match. Chasing a daunting target of 270 runs, India was all out for just 174 in 20 overs. Tendulkar’s 33-ball innings featured seven fours and four sixes, making him the standout performer, while Yusuf Pathan contributed a quick 25 off 15 balls with three fours and a six.
Australia showcased a well-rounded performance, led by captain Shane Watson, who scored an unbeaten 110, and Ben Dunk, who hit 132 not out. Together, they amassed a formidable partnership of 236 runs for the second wicket, helping Australia post an impressive total of 269 for one in their innings.
In response, Tendulkar fought valiantly for his team, delivering numerous exquisite shots, but it was not enough to turn the tide. He reached his fifty in a brisk 27 deliveries, demonstrating his trademark late cuts and straight drives against the Australian bowlers. Despite his efforts, India was unable to maintain momentum, finding themselves at 100 for three at the halfway mark before their wickets began to tumble regularly.
Australia’s Xavier Doherty was particularly devastating, taking 5 wickets for just 25 runs in his four overs. Ben Hilfenhaus, Ben Laughlin, Bryce McGain, Dan Christian, and Nathan Reardon each chipped in with a wicket as well. This defeat marked India’s first in four matches; however, there were no major consequences, as Tendulkar’s team had already secured a place in the semifinals.
Earlier in the match, Dunk’s aggressive batting was evident as he smashed 10 sixes and 12 fours in his explosive 132 runs off just 53 balls, while Watson added 110 runs in 52 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes.
Brief scores: Australia Masters 269/1 in 20 overs (Shane Watson 110 not out, Ben Dunk 132 not out) defeated India Masters 174 in 20 overs (Sachin Tendulkar 64, Yusuf Pathan 25; Xavier Doherty 5/25) by 95 runs. (PTI)
