- GMC Anantnag becomes the first newly established GMC to open a dedicated Cath Lab.
ANANTNAG, Feb 20: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo inaugurated a Catheterization Laboratory (Cath-Lab) and the newly constructed Block-A of Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beigh Memorial (MMABM) Associated Hospital, GMC Anantnag, today.
Present at the event were district Anantnag MLAs, including Abdul Majeed Bhat, Peerzada Mohammad Syeed, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Altaf Ahmad Wani, and Zafar Ali Khatana, along with Principal of GMC Anantnag, Professor Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, and various health officials and department heads.
While dedicating the Cath-Lab and Block A to the public, the Minister noted that this development signifies a new chapter in healthcare services across South Kashmir, as GMC Anantnag is the first among the newly established medical colleges to have a dedicated Cath-Lab. “With this inauguration, residents of South Kashmir will have access to top-notch medical services, particularly in cardiac care, right at their doorstep,” she emphasized.
The Minister underscored the commitment of the Omar Abdullah-led government to deliver world-class healthcare facilities close to the community. “The current government aims to enhance medical infrastructure in J&K while addressing existing challenges in the health sector,” Sakeena stated.
She also reiterated that healthcare should be a top priority for everyone, urging doctors and healthcare professionals to maintain the trust placed in them by the public. Acknowledging the existing shortage of personnel, she assured that efforts are underway to resolve these issues.
The Minister commended the administration and staff of GMC Anantnag and its associated hospital for their dedication to providing exemplary healthcare services in South Kashmir.
On this occasion, Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, highlighted the institution’s achievements and expressed gratitude to the Health Minister for her remarkable support in enhancing manpower and infrastructure. She also congratulated the residents of South Kashmir for receiving quality medical care in close proximity.
With the establishment of the Cath-Lab, residents in both South Kashmir and the Pir Panjal region can now access exceptional cardiac healthcare services nearby.
The Minister later honored Dr. Syed Maqbool, Dr. Shamim Iqbal, and Dr. Showkat Hussain Shah, cardiologists at GMC Anantnag, for their outstanding contributions and commitment to cardiac care.
