- Inaugurates Senior/Junior Residents Hostel and STIC Fire Fighting System
KATHUA, Jan 21: Sakeena Itoo, the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, visited the Government Medical College in Kathua today to oversee the induction ceremony for the inaugural batch of Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) students. Present at the event were MLA Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Principal of Government Medical College, Dr. Surinder K. Attri, Registrar of the J&K Homeopathy Board and Nodal Officer of the Government Homeopathy Medical College Kathua, Dr. B.R. Dubb, along with several heads of specialties, medical professionals, senior officials, and a large number of students.
During her address to the attendees, Sakeena Itoo congratulated the first cohort of 63 BHMS students and their families, noting how this institution would cultivate skilled medical professionals to serve the local community and enhance healthcare across Jammu and Kashmir. She emphasized that this is the first government-run Homeopathy Medical College in North India and highlighted the noble nature of the medical profession, which is dedicated to caring for the sick.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan also congratulated the students and acknowledged the efforts of the various entities involved in establishing the Homeopathy Medical College in Kathua. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Surinder K. Attri expressed appreciation for the Minister’s dedication in bringing the Government Homeopathy Medical College to existence, mentioning that the college is already supported by a 30-bed Homeopathy Hospital providing medical services to the Kathua community.
Dr. B.R. Dubb, Registrar of the J&K Homeopathy Board, shared that there are currently 600 registered Homeopathy practitioners in the Union Territory serving the populace. The BHMS students also took an oath to commit themselves to patient welfare with dedication and enthusiasm during the ceremony, which included an apron ceremony where the Minister presented the students with their white coats.
Additionally, the Minister inaugurated the Senior/Junior Residents Hostel at GMC Kathua and the STIC Fire Fighting System within the college.
