JAMMU, Jan 1: In commemoration of Ram Nath Manhas’s death anniversary, a distinguished leader of the Praja Parishad, Jana Sangh, and former MLA, heartfelt tributes were paid during a gathering at Indri village (Sujwal) in the Jourian tehsil of the Akhnoor Assembly constituency today.
The event was arranged by Sarpanch Bhupinder Singh, the grandson of Ram Nath Manhas.
BJP president for Jammu and Kashmir, Sat Sharma (CA), alongside Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister, and Mahant Rameshwar Dass, led a large crowd in honoring Manhas.
In his address, Sat Sharma acknowledged Ram Nath Manhas as one of the most significant and revered leaders of his time, who played pivotal roles in various movements of the Praja Parishad, Jana Sangh, and BJP. He noted that as an elected representative, Manhas was always accessible to the public and exemplified a commitment to nationalist principles. Sat recalled Manhas’s involvement in the historic Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan agitation and highlighted his lifelong dedication to the nation and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, earning him the reputation of a local son dedicated to strengthening nationalist forces.
“Ram Nath Manhas tirelessly worked to connect Indri village to the main region, and a bridge is currently being constructed to link it with Pargwal,” Sat announced, expressing optimism that this vision will soon become a reality, providing the community with improved road access.
Dr. Nirmal Singh, in his tribute, referred to Ram Nath Manhas as a leader of the people, whose influence in the political and social arenas of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to motivate future generations to commit themselves to the country and the party. He highlighted that during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister in the coalition government, he secured approvals for ₹206 crore to construct the Indri-Pargwal bridge, which will greatly benefit the local populace. Dr. Singh remarked that Manhas took the initiative to connect Pargwal with Jammu by building a link road with local support, emphasizing the leader’s integrity and unwavering dedication to public service over personal gain.
Mahant Rameshwar Dass added that individuals like Ram Nath Manhas are rare, as they genuinely earn a place in people’s hearts through their dedication and connection with the community.
A resolution was also passed to dedicate the upcoming Indri-Pargwal Bridge in honor of Ram Nath Manhas, naming it Ram Nath Bridge.
Other notable attendees who paid their respects included Mohan Lal Bhagat, MLA; Rajeev Sharma, former MLA; Suraj Singh, DDC vice chairman; Daljit Singh Chib, senior leader; Suresh Sharma, DDC member; Chaman Lal Kanathia; Jagdish Bhagat; Sukhdev Singh; Ashok Singh; Ram Sarup Sharma; and several others.
