SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Today, Satish Sharma, the Minister for Transport, FCS & CA, Science & Technology, and Information Technology, held meetings with senior officials to assess the winter preparedness of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS & CA) and Transport Departments. He also engaged with various delegations at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.
During the review of the Transport Department’s readiness, the Minister sought updates on bus maintenance, revenue generation, and transport provisions for remote areas. He emphasized the importance of improving efficiency and transparency within the department while ensuring enhanced and effective transport services for the public, particularly for those in distant regions and patients. He called for the adoption of innovative strategies to further streamline the department’s operations.
While discussing the FCS & CA, the Minister evaluated the stock and supply of essential goods in the Kashmir division and reviewed the additional arrangements made for the winter season. He expressed satisfaction with the department’s performance, noting its vital role in serving the community and stressing the need for proactive measures to ensure consumers face no difficulties, especially during the winter months.
The Minister also met with various delegations, including those led by MLAs Sajjad Shafi (Uri), Mushtaq Guroo (Chanapora), Jamshaid Lone (Lolab), and Showkat Hussain Ganie (Zainapora), who brought forth specific issues affecting their constituencies.
Additionally, a group from the Jammu & Kashmir Hotels and Restaurants Association (JKHARA) approached the Minister, highlighting concerns regarding the tourism sector and its development.
The Minister reassured the delegations that their issues would be communicated to the relevant authorities for timely resolution.
Later, he visited the SMHS Hospital in Shireen Bagh to check on Innayat Sheikh, a shopkeeper injured in a hit-and-run incident near Bakshi Stadium. He inquired about Sheikh’s condition and promised government support, instructing the medical team to provide adequate care.
MLA Chanapora accompanied the Minister during this hospital visit.
