JAMMU, Feb 17: The Minister for FCS& CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Training, Satish Sharma, convened a meeting to assess the operations of the Motor Vehicles Department here.
Present at the meeting were Secretary of the Transport Department, Neeraj Kumar; MD JKRTC, Rakesh Kumar Srangal; Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan; RTO Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra; RTO Kashmir, Kazi Irfan, along with ARTOs from various districts and senior officials.
The Transport Commissioner provided a concise overview of e-challaning, the establishment of RTDCs/DTCs and ICC, measures against traffic violators, RSVF, VLTP, printing of Driving Licenses, regulations concerning e-rickshaws, and other related issues.
The Minister stressed the importance of creating a strong mechanism to ensure the timely delivery of driving licenses to the public. He also called for the establishment of Driving Training Centres (DTCs) in remote areas of both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions to facilitate access for interested applicants.
On the topic of traffic violations, the Minister urged the MVD and traffic police to collaborate effectively to combat this issue.
Regarding e-rickshaws, the Minister asserted that only individuals with valid driving licenses should be registered and issued e-rickshaws, with strict actions planned against rule violators.
Satish Sharma also directed an increase in road checks across all districts. He instructed officers to ensure that violators are prosecuted in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act.
The Minister requested RTOs/ARTOs to incorporate road checks as a routine practice, emphasizing the enforcement of speed limit devices, overloading, excessive passenger fares, and route violations. He additionally instructed improvements in the public delivery system for service provision within set timelines to enhance efficiency.
The Minister reaffirmed that under the leadership of CM Omar Abdullah, the government is dedicated to offering services right at the doorstep of the people. He assured the officers of the government’s steadfast support as they carry out their responsibilities with the highest dedication and integrity.
