JAMMU, Jan 26: Today, Satish Sharma, Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, IT, Science and Technology, ARI & Trainings, officially launched the J&K contingent for the 38th National Games at a lively ceremony at KK Hakku Stadium in Jammu.
The event was attended by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, along with General Secretaries from various Sports Associations and numerous senior officials.
The J&K team consists of 108 athletes, including 87 men and 21 women, who will compete across 14 sports disciplines in the prestigious National Games, taking place in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025.
In his address, Satish Sharma congratulated the athletes on their selection and expressed his belief in their potential for success. “J&K athletes have already made their mark at national and international levels. I am confident that this contingent will bring glory to our region by winning numerous medals,” he stated.
The Minister highlighted the essential role of the youth in shaping the country’s future and underscored sports as a vital platform for talent development. He assured athletes of the government’s steadfast support, including access to top-tier infrastructure, training programs, and opportunities for competition at both national and international levels.
Satish Sharma affirmed that under the proactive leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the government is dedicated to enhancing sports facilities and infrastructure, encouraging more athletes to represent J&K on broader platforms.
Nuzhat Gul reinforced these sentiments, confirming the J&K Sports Council’s commitment to fostering local talent and providing a robust foundation for their success. She promised that various national-level coaching camps and competitions would be organized in J&K this year.
The sports disciplines represented by the J&K contingent include Wushu, Boxing, Netball, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Yoga, Cycling, Water Sports, Archery, Shooting, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.
