ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: According to a spokesman for the Taliban government, heavy snowfall and rain have claimed the lives of 36 individuals and left 40 others injured across various regions of Afghanistan.
Abdullah Jan Saiq, a representative from the National Disaster Management Authority, reported that the prolonged severe weather across many provinces has alleviated the drought situation but has resulted in significant personal and economic losses.
Preliminary reports from provincial authorities indicate that the harsh conditions have caused fatalities and injuries, particularly in the southwestern province of Farah.
Saiq noted that the tumultuous weather has led to the total destruction of 240 homes and substantial damage to an additional 61. Furthermore, numerous acres of farmland have been devastated.
“Survey teams are currently deployed in the affected regions, and assessments are ongoing in partnership with non-governmental organizations,” he explained. “Some roads remain obstructed due to snow, and efforts are underway to restore access with assistance from the Ministry of Public Works.” (AP)
