Mumbai, January 11: During the Special General Meeting (SGM) on Sunday, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be formally elected as the BCCI secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Saikia and Bhatia were the sole candidates for these vacant roles after BCCI’s electoral officer and former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Achal Kumar Joti, finalized the candidate list on Tuesday.
Since Jay Shah’s appointment as ICC chairman on December 1, Saikia has been serving as the interim secretary for the BCCI.
The BCCI constitution mandates that any vacant position must be filled within 45 days through a Special General Meeting. Sunday’s gathering falls on the 43rd day since the vacancy arose.
Bhatia put forward his nomination for the treasurer role following the swearing-in of the previous treasurer, Ashish Shelar, as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.
Shah to be honored
The election of these two key office-bearers is the primary agenda item, while ICC chairman Shah will also be present at the SGM as a “special invitee.”
Shah, recognized as the youngest person to hold the office of ICC Chairman, will be honored by the state units concurrent with the SGM, in addition to addressing some routine matters.
Last month, Shah succeeded Greg Barclay as the ICC chief. (PTI)
