Chitrakoot (MP), Feb 27: Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the legacy of the late social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh, asserting that some individuals have a profound influence and catalyze significant changes across eras.
Shah spoke at an event commemorating Deshmukh, an esteemed RSS leader, on the 15th anniversary of his passing.
“Certain lives leave enduring marks not just for years but for generations, becoming catalysts for change in an era. Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh stands out as one of these remarkable figures,” he remarked.
Reflecting on Deshmukh’s contributions to the arts, politics, industry, and social services, Shah noted his lasting effects across various sectors.
He also acknowledged Deshmukh’s role in the establishment of the Janata Party after the Emergency, highlighting its role in restoring democracy within just 19 months.
Deshmukh successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1977. Following his victory, he sought collaboration from his rival, a Maharani from a former royal family in the area, for the constituency’s development, Shah added.
During the event, the Union minister unveiled a statue of Jan Sangh founder Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and inaugurated the newly renovated Ram Darshan complex.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also addressed the gathering. (PTI)
