JAMMU, Dec 12: MLA Sham Lal Sharma, accompanied by Dr. Devansh Yadav, the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), undertook a comprehensive tour of Jammu North to assess water bodies and ongoing projects managed by the JMC.

During the visit, they explored several key water bodies, including those located at Janipur, Keran Upper Muthi, and Barnai. In his remarks, MLA Sham Lal Sharma raised concerns regarding the declining water table, linking it to insufficient water recharge initiatives. He stressed the vital role of rainwater conservation in replenishing the water table, advocating for collaborative efforts in water preservation.
Praising the JMC team led by Commissioner Dr. Yadav, MLA Sharma noted, “We are committed to being accessible to the public, addressing their concerns, and evaluating their developmental needs.”
The JMC Commissioner highlighted the critical significance of water bodies in recharging the water table, describing them as essential sources for groundwater replenishment. He assured that the government prioritizes the rejuvenation, upkeep, and sanitation of these water resources.
He added that several water bodies within municipal limits would be incorporated into the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) Scheme and the Jan Bagidari Scheme for further enhancement.
Additionally, the Commissioner directed the Health Officer at JMC to maintain vigilance around these water bodies to prevent littering. “Any waste found near water bodies should be promptly removed,” he instructed, underlining the importance of cleanliness and the protection of these essential water resources.
Among those accompanying the tour were Joint Commissioner for Works Firdous Ahmad Qazi, Deputy Commissioner North JMC Sanjay Badyal, Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineers Akhil Dutt, and other senior JMC officials.
