BARI BRAHMANA (SAMBA), Jan 23: Today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the revolutionary visions of Dr. B R Ambedkar and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in promoting equality and justice.
During the inauguration of the Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan, established by the Dr BR Ambedkar Educational Society in Bari Brahmana, he underscored the importance of land reforms in Jammu and Kashmir as a means to empower disenfranchised communities.
“Dr. Ambedkar crafted India’s constitution, establishing equal rights that transcend discrimination. He dedicated his life to advocating for marginalized groups, granting them a voice, identity, and respect. In Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah aligned with this vision through land reforms that uplifted the disenfranchised. The bond between land and identity is profound, and safeguarding it is crucial for protecting our heritage and future,” remarked the Chief Minister.
He commended Dr. Ambedkar’s focus on education as a pivotal factor for change.
“The founding of this educational society in Dr. Ambedkar’s honor embodies his aspiration. This site is dedicated to a library, study circle, and community hall rather than commercial pursuits. These resources will empower the youth to explore Dr. Ambedkar’s teachings and engage in research while providing a venue for community gatherings for those in need,” he elaborated.
Reflecting on Dr. Ambedkar’s impact on India’s constitution, Omar Abdullah acknowledged its groundbreaking principles.
“Dr. Ambedkar established equality from the outset, conferring voting rights to women at a time when many countries withheld such fundamental rights. His vision created an enduring foundation for justice and equality that is unmatched today,” he stated.
He recognized the existing gaps in representation and emphasized the need for intensified efforts to fulfill Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of genuine equality.
“Had Dr. Ambedkar anticipated the underrepresentation of women in legislative bodies and Parliament in 2025, he might have implemented reservations for women from the onset. While strides have been made, including women reaching the office of prime ministers and presidents, the pursuit of equality remains ongoing,” he noted.
The Chief Minister also highlighted India’s accomplishments in gender equality, surpassing many nations.
“In comparison to countries that have yet to elect a female leader, India’s advancements in empowering women serve as a testament to Dr. Ambedkar’s vision,” he remarked.
In closing, Omar Abdullah assured the audience that the Charter of Demands presented at the event would receive the appropriate attention.
In attendance were Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Deputy Commissioner Samba Rajesh Sharma, President of the Dr BR Ambedkar Education Society Bari Brahmana Pooran Chand, General Secretary Romesh Chand, senior officials, and other members of the organization.
