LOS ANGELES, Feb 28: Hollywood actress Zendaya is the newest cast member for the fifth chapter of the animated fantasy series “Shrek”.
Set to grace the screens in 2026, the star of “Dune: Part Two” will be joining the original cast, which includes Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya is set to voice the character who is the daughter of Shrek (voiced by Myers) and Fiona (voiced by Diaz).
Inspired by the 1990 children’s book “Shrek!” by William Steig, the franchise offers a humorous and satirical perspective on traditional fairy tales, centering on the life of Shrek, a grouchy yet good-natured ogre, and his princess, Fiona.
The franchise has already released four films from 2001 to 2010. The initial “Shrek” film not only dominated the box office but also became the first recipient of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The enormous success of the first film prompted sequels such as “Shrek 2” (2004), “Shrek the Third” (2007), and “Shrek Forever After” (2010), along with a spin-off series centered around the character of Puss in Boots.
“Shrek 5” will be helmed by Walt Dohrn, who contributed as a writer and artist on both “Shrek 2” and “Shrek the Third”. He also served as the head of story for “Shrek Forever After” and voiced Rumpelstiltskin in that film. Brad Ableson will take on the role of co-director.
Gina Shay, a returning producer from the franchise, alongside Illumination’s founder Chris Meledandri, will oversee production.
Recognized as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents, Zendaya has an exciting slate ahead that includes “Dune: Messiah”, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, a fourth “Spider-Man” installment, and the third season of “Euphoria”. (PTI)
