Katra, Feb 15: Today, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke at the Convocation Ceremony of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU).
The Lieutenant Governor conveyed his appreciation to the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, for honoring the graduating students of SMVDU during the University’s 10th Convocation. He remarked that today’s occasion will be a memorable experience for the students for years to come.
In his address to the audience, the Lieutenant Governor urged the youth to lead the nation’s development and strive to make it the largest economy globally.
“The future strength of our nation hinges on our values, innovation, and knowledge, and I firmly believe that the young men and women graduating in this Amrit Kaal will be pivotal in shaping our nation’s future. Those graduating today are stepping into a unique role in nation-building,” stated the Lieutenant Governor.
He noted that advancements in humanities, arts, science, and technology have unveiled new opportunities, and the knowledge gained by the graduating students will be crucial for their success.
“Our youth today possess specialized knowledge and skills that can be effectively utilized to transform rural communities. This mission necessitates both dedication and resolve. Above all, our youth must remain grounded in their rich cultural heritage and have confidence in their capabilities and the wisdom of our traditions,” the Lieutenant Governor emphasized.
He asserted that the skills and knowledge acquired must enhance the quality of life for individuals.
To capitalize on future opportunities in science and technology, we need to reevaluate our teaching and mentoring frameworks, as these will significantly impact the journey towards a developed India, he added.
The Lieutenant Governor encouraged educators to focus on unleashing the potential of their students, transforming educational institutions into powerful vehicles for building a thriving India.
It is the duty of educators and institutions to initiate innovative educational programs that nurture curiosity, foster critical thinking, and encourage creativity and innovation. Teachers should share their personal experiences to inspire students in developing Lifelong Learning Skills essential for shaping their futures, he mentioned.
The Lieutenant Governor wished all graduating students a prosperous and bright future. He also congratulated the female students for surpassing their male counterparts in the medal standings and excelling in the Certificate of Distinction and Infosys Foundation Prize.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University awarded Honoris Causa degrees to renowned writer and historian Padma Shri Pt Shiv Dutt Nirmohi, along with former CEO of the National Health Authority, Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma.
Attendees included Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of the Vice President; Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister; Sakina Itoo, Minister for Higher Education; Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU; Vice-Chancellors of various universities; Heads of Departments from different educational institutions; senior officials from civil and police administration; faculty members; students; and their families.
