Jammu, Feb 16: Security officials reported a brief exchange of fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. According to sources, the incident occurred around 11:30 am in the Gulpur sector when an Indian Army post was targeted from a forested area across the LoC. Indian soldiers swiftly retaliated, and the crossfire lasted only a short while. Officials stated that there was no damage reported on the Indian side, and it remains unclear whether the firing originated from the Pakistan army or from terrorists concealed in the forests.
Last week, there were several cross-border incidents, including an IED explosion that claimed the lives of two army personnel, including a captain. Additionally, two other soldiers were injured due to cross-border firing, a violation of the ceasefire agreement. In response, Indian troops retaliated effectively, reportedly inflicting heavy casualties on the Pakistani side.
Since the renewal of the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on February 25, 2021, violations along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir have become increasingly rare.
