RAJOURI, Jan 1: Today marked a pivotal step in the movement for reinstating statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as MLA Thannamandi, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, and MLA Surankote, Chowdhary Mohammad Akram, initiated a campaign. The event took place at Children Park, Rajouri, attracting significant local support.

The event kicked off with a signature drive and transitioned into a rally that made its way to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Rajouri. The MLAs presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, advocating for the restoration of statehood.
In his address, MLA Thannamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan stated, “Restoring statehood is more than a political issue; it embodies the collective hopes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This campaign serves as a platform for every citizen to showcase their support for this important cause. I encourage everyone to participate actively, as it will amplify our voice on a national scale.”
He highlighted that restoring statehood is essential for fostering development, autonomy, and respect for the people of J&K.
MLA Surankote Mohd Akram Choudhary also shared his views, saying, “The removal of statehood has had a profound effect on the socio-political and economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. It is crucial to rectify this situation and restore the dignity of our populace. Through this signature campaign, we intend to communicate a strong message to the central government that the citizens of J&K stand united in their demand for statehood.”
“We will extend this campaign to every area, ensuring that all citizens have a chance to support this movement. On January 20, we will launch the campaign in Surankote, bringing additional voices to our cause,” he added.
Both leaders stressed that restoring statehood is vital for ensuring democratic governance, promoting economic growth, and preserving the unique identity of Jammu and Kashmir. They called upon individuals from all backgrounds to join the movement and contribute to its success.
The campaign garnered enthusiastic participation from locals, highlighting widespread support for the restoration of statehood. The rally concluded with chants advocating for justice, development, and the reinstatement of J&K’s statehood.
