SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Recent snowfall in the higher altitudes and rain in the lowlands has ended the extended dry period in the Kashmir valley, with the Meteorological Department predicting a chance of further precipitation over the upcoming four days.
Officials noted that intermittent snowfall was observed in the higher altitudes of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and the Sonmarg area of the valley.
They also mentioned that traces of snowfall were noticeable early this morning in certain regions of South Kashmir.
Srinagar and the surrounding areas have experienced sporadic rainfall since last evening.
This precipitation caused the maximum temperature to drop a few degrees on Friday, while the minimum temperature remained above freezing in the city last night, according to the Met.
Srinagar recorded a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius last night, which is 1.4 degrees higher than the average for this season, as reported by the Met.
Most areas in Kashmir recorded minimum temperatures above normal last night, except for the Gulmarg skiing resort in North Kashmir, where temperatures fell to minus 7.2 degrees Celsius. (Agencies)
