SRINAGAR, Jan 13: Soldiers stationed at the Siachen glacier, known as the world’s highest battlefield, can now access high-speed internet services, as announced by the Army on Monday.
The Fire and Fury Corps revealed in a post on X that they, in partnership with Jio Telecom, have successfully installed the first-ever 5G mobile tower atop the Siachen glacier, stating, “Connectivity at the highest battlefield of the world.”
This remarkable achievement is dedicated to the brave soldiers facing challenging conditions. The Fire and Fury Signallers and the warriors of Siachen tackled extreme temperatures that dipped below -40 degrees Celsius to establish the 5G base transceiver station at North Glacier.
A representative from Reliance Jio commented that with the assistance of Army Signallers, Reliance Jio has become the first telecom provider to offer reliable connectivity in this rugged terrain.
The installation utilized plug-and-play, pre-configured equipment, showcasing Jio’s indigenous full-stack 5G technology at a forward location.
The success of this undertaking was achieved through cooperation with Army Signallers, which included planning, extensive training sessions, system pre-configuration, and thorough testing. The Indian Army played a crucial role in logistics, even aiding in the airlift of Jio’s equipment to the frigid heights of the Siachen glacier.
This collaboration has ensured connectivity at 16,000 feet within the Karakoram range, an area notorious for its severe conditions, with temperatures plummeting to -50 degrees Celsius, the spokesperson added. (Agencies)
