JOHANNESBURG, Feb 2: During the inaugural phase of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha Multi-Cultural Centre and Temple, Deputy President Paul Mashatile emphasized that the principles of BAPS align harmoniously with South Africa’s national ethos of Ubuntu.
Acknowledging the contributions of the local Hindu community, Mashatile remarked: “We must recognize the vital role the Hindu community plays in nation-building. With its rich cultural heritage and values, this community has been instrumental in shaping the social fabric of our diverse nation.”
As the chief guest at the official launch, he highlighted the parallels between BAPS’s values and South African ideals.
“The principles of dharma, seva (service), and unity championed by BAPS resonate profoundly with our national spirit of Ubuntu—the belief in our collective humanity and interconnectedness,” Mashatile said while reflecting on BAPS’s numerous activities.
He described the project as “a beacon of faith, culture, and unity” and praised BAPS for its dedication to humanitarian efforts, social upliftment, and cultural preservation. The new Temple is envisioned not only as a place of worship but also as a haven for peace, knowledge, and spiritual growth for individuals from all walks of life.
Mashatile also encouraged BAPS to collaborate with the government in tackling pressing national issues such as poverty, unemployment, violence, substance abuse, and gender-based violence. “We must unite our efforts within our communities to reaffirm the significance of freedom, peace, and security, along with respect for all human rights,” Mashatile concluded.
