JAMMU, Jan 17: Authorities reported on Friday the arrest of two individuals involved in drug trafficking, one of whom is a Special Police Officer (SPO), in the Miran Sahib region of Jammu district.
This operation was part of the ongoing anti-drug initiative known as Operation Sanjeevani. The Jammu Police apprehended the two suspects, including an SPO assigned to DPL Poonch, and seized 12 grams of a substance resembling heroin (Chitta) during a late-night operation near Balol Bridge on the Ring Road, Miran Sahib.
The police spokesperson stated that officers from the Miran Sahib Police Station intercepted a vehicle en route from Samba to Akhnoor. Upon spotting the police, the suspects tried to escape but were quickly detained.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Irfan Hussain, the SPO posted at DPL Poonch and son of Matloob Hussain from Galuta, Tehsil Mendhar, and Sajjad Hussain Shah, son of Sarfraz Hussain Shah from Potha Surankot, District Poonch.
A thorough search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the discovery of 12 grams of the illicit substance. Subsequently, an FIR No. 11/2025 was filed under sections 8/21/22/29/60 of the NDPS Act at the Miran Sahib Police Station, with additional investigations ongoing.
The Jammu Police are determined to combat the drug issue and encourage the community to assist in this endeavor by reporting any suspicious behavior. The anonymity of informants providing critical information will be safeguarded, the statement concluded.
